My Garden Goals

I am on a journey at the moment to create a low-tox home. There has been so many benefits so far for us, and the biggest at the moment has been for our budget. Not eating takeaway once a week and mostly purchasing fresh ingredients for our home has saved us a lot of money as it is just from that change. Which means I have had extra cash flow to begin to start making lifestyle changes as a whole. One of those changes has been my return to home gardening.

Once upon a time, I was a very keen gardener, and unfortunately moving into a new rental where I wasn’t sure how to approach gardening went a little bit to the back of my mind, which was unfortunate. Luckily for me, with some money and time on my hands, I am able to start focusing on that and I have made some huge progress this week with beginning on this project.

I have decided to start making YouTube video’s again, specifically to document my journey with gardening and a low-tox lifestyle.

This week I have started with planting some seeds, and I also found a raised garden bed that is self-watering, that is perfect for growing produce in a rental property or small spaces. I really want to talk a bit more about my goals though.

We are in a fortunate position to have a farm of 1500 acres in size at our disposal to use. So whilst I am focusing on building my confidence and skills back with gardening, I do have a larger long-term goal in which I would like to achieve. My goal is to provide food to table for my family with minimal expenses on food left. I want to be at a point the only things left for us to by each week are things that I cannot personally produce (like flour and chocolate) and dairy. Which yes, that means even long term I would like to learn how to Butcher our own meat as well. Which a big part of becoming low-tox for us, is escaping petroleum based plastics that our meat come packaged in.

I do plan to document the whole journey from start to finish. From growing produce in a rental property, right up to growing produce on a family farm.

I am slowly building my collection of low-tox supplies and food is making huge changes in a short space of time. I was so happy this week to plant some broccoli, and parsley as well as start my seeds as well. It was very peaceful and a little bit of time to myself.

Rental Property Goals

  1. Purchase 7 more garden beds before spring
  2. Plan spring layout
  3. Order spring seeds I would like to grow
  4. Set up layout I would like for my garden beds and have them filled ready for spring planting
  5. purchase grow lights to get a jump on seed raising in case it’s a “wet summer” again.

Please feel free to comment and let me know your 2026 garden plans and whether you plan to start gardening as a part of a transition to a low-tox home.
