Low Tox Household

Very recently I watched a documentary on Netflix called “The Plastic Detox” and well it was an eye opener to how much plastic is consuming us and the very little we honestly knew about how plastic harms our bodies. From watching this and doing a bit more research I personally came to a conclusion that it was time for some very very serious changes to our home and our futures.

The days proceeding watching this documentary I got the “ick” with plastic and began to feel very overwhelmed looking around my home and in every nook and cranny and there was plastic… so much plastic. I knew it was time to make a meaningful change. I will admit this has not been an easy journey and I know this transition will take a lot of time to achieve. So here is what I have done so far;

  • Begun to cook all meals at home, no takeaway and beginning to swap school snacks to home made (also saved us a considerable amount of money and the added benefit of weight loss too, so that’s a bonus)
  • Swapped our cutting boards from plastic to bamboo/wooden boards
  • Swapped our home cleaning sprays from chemicals and plastic to glass bottle and natural cleaners
  • Swapped our laundry detergent to detergent sheets
  • Cooking from fresh ingredients where possible
  • Discarded any Airwick or chemical based fresheners and replaced it to diffusers and essential oils

So two weeks into changing our home that’s what we have achieved so far which is a tremendous start.
